Hi everyone,

we have large mfc application and we wanted to convert this in to a web app. so i am trying to find out different approaches for the same. so in that process i thought of using CasaBlanca to create REST service and consuming from GWT . please let me know if you think this is better approach and do you foresee any issue with this approach ?

Hi vijaypothireddy,

It is difficult to know if moving from a large MFC application to a web app is right for you without understanding more.

The places Casablanca specifically could be useful is around network communication using a REST based approach. For authoring a service take a look our http_listener. Specifically take a look our one of our samples for the http_listener, CasaLens (under Release\samples\CasaLens). One thing to keep in mind is Casablanca doesn't come with any facility to help you deploy and host your service. This will need to be handled on your own.

Steve,

thanks for slick and very helpful reply.

i am more interested in exposing some of our C++ function as web methods. This SDK seems to be very promising and i am hoping that i can avoid interop problems and carrying full .NET redist. however i under stood that this SDK does not have hosting capability. Do you have any plans to support this in near feature ?

Hi Vijay,

No currently we aren't doing any work on any hosting in Azure, IIS, or Apache. Most of our customer demand right now has been for additional platform support and new protocol support like WebSockets so that is where we are focusing for the moment. We do have a couple of open issue feature requests for hosting IIS and Apache that you can vote for.

If you do any work with Casablanca in this area please let us know.

Thanks,
Steve
